Bowling it out for the win

will now contest each other in the final for the prize of being the 2023 Open Singles Champion.

THE Wentworth Bowling Club open singles got down to the final stages this weekend. The semi-finals were battled out between Denzil Lewis, who played Bradley Claassens and Luvoyo Ndava, who played Matt Lassak.

All four players showed great sportsmanship and respect on the greens as well as showcasing their talents. After the hard fought contests, the eventual winners were Bradley Claassens and Matt Lassak. They will now contest each other in the final for the prize of being the 2023 Open Singles Champion and get their name in gold on the honours board. Members please check the board for other posted competitions coming up.

The ‘Pig ‘n a Poke’ drawn competition was played on February 7. Taking first place was the combination of Godfrey Addinall and Edgar and Liz Bransby. The runners-up were Graham Bransby and Steve Baker.
Both sets of winners were pleased with their winnings of pork fillets for first place and pork bangers for second.
This is now a regular competition on Tuesday mornings and becoming very popular. Players need to register at 08:30 for 09:00, and the drawn format depends on the numbers.

The Tomasina’s men’s casual bowls, held on February 10, saw a great turnout. Rob Davies, Phil Hill and Don Moodley teamed up and won first place on a plus 15, while Mark Russel Boulton, and Garly Lelong scooped second place on a plus 11. The sportsman’s prize went to the combination of Murice Faulkner, Herby Roux and Shane Schadie. Dianne Todkill picked the winning number to take home the pork roast and the 60/40 board went to Abe Masfon, who won first prize, and Tomcat Cavanagh bagging the second prize.

Wentworth BC was a very proud club this week as Troy Garland and Moses Nuba were selected to represent Port Natal bowls in the presidents side at the Inter Districts Tournament.

The week ended with the men and women’s teams taking to the greens in the Port Natal trips competition. Denzil Lewis, Gees Dennis and Ori Harripersad won their section and have gone through to the knock-out part of the competition. For more information, contact Simon Garland on 082 895 0896.
