Epic play by female bowlers on Wentworth greens
Here is what went down in the previous competitions that were played at the club.
IT was another busy week of competitions at Wentworth Bowling Club with excitement since the Pig in a Poke drawn competition on March 7. Taking first place and going home with the pork fillets prize was Robin De Gouveia, Trudy Rautenbach and AB Masson.
The runners-up for the pork bangers prize were Mandy Sargent, Dave Carrol and Barry Smith. The Pig in a Poke drawn competition is a regular Tuesday competition on the club’s calendar and is opened to all registered bowlers. Players need to register at 08:30 for 09:00. The drawn format depends on the numbers.
The Tomasina’s men’s casual bowls, which was held on March 10, saw Graham Bransby and AB Masson in first place on a plus 13, while second place went to Nico Heyman, Phill Hill and Johan Nel on a plus 5. The sportsman’s prize went to Craig Muller and Geoff Aberdeen. Mark Russel Boulton picked the winning number to take home the Kentucky Ham and the two 60/ 40 board draws went to Graham Bransby and Tom Cavanagh, who took first prize while Kevin Anthony and Graham Bransby won the second prize.

On March 11, the women battled it out on the greens in the semi-final of the trips competition. Chantal Hearnshaw, Sonya Koch and Maree Sadie went up against Maria Cavanagh, Vicky Williams and Mackenzie Garland. Spectators were treated to an epic battle which went down to the last end, where Maria’s team went on to win and will now contest the final.
The powerhouse nominated pairs competition was rained out on March 12. Play will be re-scheduled for another date. The competition will take place over five rounds and will then include a play-off for first prize.
The Big Jim Pairs, sponsored by Kincade Leather products, will take place on March 19, due to Port Natal competitions being played on the last Sunday of March. Members are also reminded to check the notice board for posted competitions.
