Update: Montclair woman’s killing possibly linked to taxi-related violence

A provincial police spokesperson said the Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team has been roped in to investigate the murder.

POLICE are investigating the killing of a 63-year-old Montclair woman, who was shot multiple times in the chest and head, in Boniface Avenue in Montclair on Monday afternoon, May 29.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, said Montclair police have opened an investigation for a case of murder.

He said that the woman, who is a taxi owner, was alighting from an e-hailing vehicle next to her home when she was allegedly approached by two suspects who fired shots at her.

“She fell back into the vehicle and was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the e-hailing vehicle was not injured. The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage although taxi-related violence cannot be ruled out.

“The Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team has been roped in to investigate the murder. The suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla Quest with registration number ND 698-912. A manhunt for the suspects is underway,” he said.
