WATCH: Learners amped to fight climate change

Certain Mowat Park Secondary School learners were selected to join the Mind Blown Organisation's club to take part in competitive gaming with a strong focus on addressing climate change through STEM – science, technology, engineering and math.

MOWAT Park Secondary School learners recently joined the Mind Blown Organisation, a club that aims to encourage learners to come up with possible solutions to environmental crises, such as climate change.

The school selected certain learners to join the prestigious club, which offers a platform that combines the excitement of competitive gaming with a strong focus on addressing climate change through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) innovation.

Knowledge Mxhonywa, a teacher at the school, said learners will be given the opportunity to engage in global battles with players from around the world and also be empowered to contribute by crafting their own awe-inspiring facts centred on environmental solutions.

“The Immersive STEM education section provides a wealth of enthralling facts in the fields of science and technology, sparking the imaginations of learners and enriching their understanding of these subjects.

“The Global Sports experiences will see learners engaging in exhilarating game clashes with their peers hailing from diverse corners of the globe. It will foster a sense of international camaraderie and teamwork,” added Mxhonywa.

The club’s captain, Laraib Rasool, said, “Green Solutions Innovation will embrace a mission-focused approach as we actively participate in creating innovative green solutions to combat climate change. The unique concept propels us beyond typical gaming experiences and empowers us to be part of real-world solutions. We are excited about this opportunity and journey.”

The team has already competed in their first task, which was participating in the Inter-coastal Clean-up Day at uShaka Beach on September 16.
