Children around the world will eagerly anticipate the arrival of Father Christmas, who ushers in the merriness and joy and is synonymous with being the big, friendly gift-bearer, who fulfils wishes according to his naughty-and-nice list. Here are the top three Christmas wishes of excited children from south Durban:

1. A Rubik’s cube
2. A watch
3. A chess set

1. A bike
2. A soccer ball
3. A big truck

1. A bicycle
2. A drums
3. A guitar
We also asked some of our south Durban residents: “What can’t you do without on Christmas day?”

I cannot be without my children and two foster babies that we have been blessed with, as well as ensuring that they have a hearty meal and something to make them smile. For me, Christmas is all about bringing joy to their lives and making sure they have full tummies and smiles on their faces.

I cannot do without my family; I have to have those I keep in my heart close to me. I also cannot do without awesome food, which I prepare, Christmas carols blasting in the background while I cook, and just being in the comfort of my house makes everything nice. [I also love] creating memories with my babies and starting our own Christmas traditions.

I cannot do without family love, be it with all my relatives or just my wife and my loving daughter. Christmas is about being with people you love and treasure.
