Brighton Beach police issue crime alert for lack of visibility of house numbers
The police are urging home owners to ensure their house number is visible to aid in emergency response times.

BRIGHTON Beach SAPS is urging the public to ensure that house numbers are clearly visible both day and night, as the lack of visibility is causing delays in response times.
According to the Road and Streets By-Law chapter six, subsection two, “A number displayed as contemplated by subsection (1) must – (a) be displayed in a conspicuous position on the premises and must at all times be visible and legible from the adjacent street; and (b) be replaced by the owner of the premises as often as it gets obliterated, defaced or illegible.”

The police have observed that some homeowners and business operators have inadequately sized or low-quality numbers, affecting visibility during both day and night.
Captain Louise Le Roux, Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, said “Responding to general complaints, including progress complaints response times, are delayed due to numbering or the size being insufficient.” She added that if you are aware of a neighbour or neighbouring business that does not have their number adequately displayed, you should encourage them to rectify it as soon as possible.
