Wentworth police raise awareness on GBV

Social crime prevention officers distributed pamphlets to the community to raise awareness of gender-based violence in Wentworth.

IN response to escalating criminal activities, Wentworth police have vowed to develop strategic plans to combat crime within the Merewent policing precinct.

The officers attached to the Wentworth Police Station will be intensifying crime prevention operations to deal with criminal activities including theft of and from motor vehicles, theft of copper pipes, burglary in residential and businesses.

Spokesperson for Wentworth Police Station, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said the police will also intensify their visibility in shopping malls.

“The police will conduct stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, vehicle check points and crime awareness campaigns in different places to curb crime.

“Safety of motorists, visitors and residents will be our main focus as we approach the festive season. The police will also focus on liquor outlets to ensure that businesses are in compliance with the bylaws,” said Gumede.

The police will also intensify operations focusing on possession of any dangerous weapons. The community is urged to make use of the CrimeStop number to report any crime or incident.
