Clairwood robbery accused return to Durban Magistrate’s Court
The six men are facing charges of business robbery, committed on November 20, at a transport company based in Clairwood.
SIX men facing a charge of robbery are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on December 5 on a bail hearing. The accused first applied for bail on November 25 but the case was postponed for further investigation.

Three of the accused are undocumented foreign nationals
Three of the six accused are undocumented foreign nationals from Swaziland – Thembinkosi Jele (38), Melusi Dlamini (27) and Thulani Thabethe (30). The other suspects are Siyabonga Mbuzeni (25), Menzi Gwebu (27) and Sanele Gavu (26).
The accused were arrested by the police after they allegedly entered a business in Clairwood and robbed workers of their cellphones and cash. The incident happened on November 20.
The first three suspects were arrested by the police at a hotel in Clairwood, two were arrested in Lamontville and one was arrested in Clairwood during a police sting operation. The police recovered all the stolen items from the accused.

The accused tried to steal a shipping container with valuable goods
The court heard that the initial plan had been to steal a shipping container with valuable goods stored at the company’s premises. However, the accused failed to move it and eventually the scene without it.
Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini from the Montclair Police Station said they received a call from the company alerting them about a robbery in progress, and police acted swiftly.
“The police worked tirelessly that day and followed leads that we received from our sources. The investigation led us to the hotel in Clairwood where the suspects were hiding. They were arrested and charged,” said Dlamini.
