From The Bluff, Arianna John of Maris Stella has made her community proud with distinctions in all seven of her matric subjects, namely English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, physics, business studies, and life orientation.

“The hardest challenge I had in matric was coping with the massive workload. There was always something to do. There was always a test to study for, an oral to write or a set of notes waiting to be made. On top of that, your Grade 12 marks are the ones that really matter so not only did I have to complete the work, but I had to ensure that I was constantly presenting work of a high standard. In the end it was all worth it,” she said.

Arianna intends to follow in the footsteps of her father and intends to be a chartered accountant. She has enrolled at Stellenbosch University.

“I was at home when I received my results. My dad came home with the newspaper, and it honestly took forever to find my number. When I did find it I just screamed. I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited as I was that night. I had to check the codes three times because I couldn’t believe I actually got distinctions for all of my subjects. The moment honestly felt surreal,” she said.

Mayenziwe, whose favourite subject is mathematics, will be studying actuarial science at the University of Cape Town.
