Ward 64 councillor back in court for assault

The State is set to call witnesses to testify in court. Gavin Hegter faces assault charges after a 43-year-old man filed a complaint with the police.

WITNESSES are expected to testify soon in the assault case involving ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter. Hegter, who is currently out on a warning, appeared at the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on March 7.

The State is set to call witnesses to testify in court. He faces assault charges after a 43-year-old man filed a complaint with the Montclair police, alleging that Hegter assaulted him in November last year.

The matter was adjourned until March 28 to allow the accused’s lawyer time to review the contents of the docket. This case has sparked outrage in the community with the ANC calling for justice to be served for the victim.
