eThekwini municipality warns of planned shutdown of southern aqueduct

Residents in the Durban South that are supplied by the southern aqueduct should prepare for a planned water outage.

RESIDENTS of Woodlands, Yellowwood Park and Coedmore will be without water for 24 hours from 07:00 on Wednesday (August 20) until 07:00 on Thursday (August 21) when the eThekwini Municipality undertakes essential upgrade work on the southern aqueduct.

According to a statement from the eThekwini Municipality, the outage is part of the municipality’s ongoing upgrade scheme, during which sections of the aqueduct are being cleaned and the existing pipe is being hooked up to the new southern aqueduct pipes.

The areas that were affected are located in the Ridley Park and Westcliff reservoirs, which supply water to Coedmore, Woodlands and Yellowwood Park and other areas. Water supply is expected to return gradually once the work is completed.

The municipality has issued an apology for the inconvenience and has urged residents to make the necessary arrangements.

Residents who have experienced extended disruption since the scheduled restoration time are requested to contact the municipality through its mobile app, WhatsApp line number 073 148 3477, toll-free number 080 311 1111 or email Eservices@durban.gov.za.
