The news was welcomed especially after reports circulated on social media claiming several of the beaches were unsafe.

According to a statement by the municipality, they reassured residents and holidaymakers that water quality along the coastline meets the required safety standards, and that the City continues to make significant progress in the restoration of beach and coastal infrastructure.

“The teams are steadily advancing the restoration efforts, bringing our coastal facilities closer to the high standards enjoyed before the April 2022 floods,” read the statement.

With an expected influx of thousands of visitors to Durban over the summer period, officials reiterated commitments to ensuring a safe, clean and world-class beach experience for locals and tourists alike.

In the interest of clarity, the City wished to remind the community that daily beach status updates, including current water quality and beach conditions, are always available on the municipal website.

The municipality also cautioned and encouraged residents to rely only on official sources and verified updates. For accurate information, residents are urged to visit www.durban.gov.za or follow the City’s official communication platforms.
