“The day went very well, and the turnout was better than expected for a Sunday. A total of 44 animals were vaccinated on the day. Pets received their rabies shots, others received important vaccines and some were also dewormed. Our team also answered questions, giving advice and made sure each pet was checked before leaving,” said Madasamy.
Queen Duma is an animal health technician in the Department of Agriculture’s veterinary services directorate. Duma emphasised that all domesticated pets need to be vaccinated against rabies. While rabies is fatal, it is preventable through regular immunisation.
The residents utilised the opportunity to protect their pets and many learnt more about proper methods of caring for pets.
Madasamy said that the initiative ensured pets received critical vaccinations and served to raise awareness about rabies prevention and overall pet well-being.
