“Her addition to the senior management renders Yellowwood Park Primary an academically and administratively sound institution. Congratulations and all of the best,” said Khanyi.

In response to her recent elevation, Van Zyl outlined her vision and objectives for the school.

“I want to keep the school growing; I would like to maintain our ethos because I believe ours is one of the best and would like to keep to the core values of our school. I want to ensure that we keep the school at a state of excellence and allow every learner the ability to achieve whatever they want. I also want to help inspire and grow young teachers to become passionate about their professions so that it becomes more than just a job or role they need to fulfil,” said Van Zyl.

Expressing her excitement at the confirmation of her role, Van Zyl highlighted her extensive journey with the school, starting in 1993 as a Grade One teacher and later transitioning to a Grade R teacher in 2008. Her enduring passion for young learners is evident as she assumes her new position. In addition to her deputy principal duties, Van Zyl remains actively engaged as the media centres’ teacher and is prepared to serve as a fill-in teacher when needed.
