The aim of the event was to showcase the literacy, confidence and academic achievements of the learners.

Learners from Grades 1 to 3 put their spelling skills to the test across several challenging rounds, including an unseen section.

After a keen contest, three learners stood out as the school’s spelling champions, Elliana Valayathum from Grade One, Jeremiah Phillips from Grade Two and Kade Ganesh from Grade Three.

Representing the school

Ganesh has also earned the opportunity to represent M. L. Sultan St Mary’s Primary School at the district spelling bee competition later this month.

Acting principal Ramesh Singh said that the competition’s value extended beyond identifying top spellers.

“The spelling bee serves as a tool to enhance learners’ literacy, broadening their vocabulary, improving spelling accuracy, refining reading and writing skills, and building confidence in public speaking,” he said.

Singh praised all the participants for taking the time to learn all the words and prepare for the unseen section. He also offered Kade his best wishes for the district competition.

The spelling bee also offered participants a chance to develop resilience and discipline, encouraging them to face challenges and aim high.
