Collingwood Primary set to get additional classrooms

The project for additional classrooms at Collingwood Primary School in Wentworth is underway and is expected to be completed next year.

THE KZN Department of Education’s infrastructure project conducted an inspection at a construction site of additional classrooms at Collingwood Primary School in Wentworth on November 5.

The KZN Department of Education’s deputy director general for Institutional Development, Judy Dlamini, in her quest to monitor progress of construction sites and ensure compliance, inspected Collingwood Primary School.

Accompanied by the district director for uMlazi, Busi Mahlambi, district officials, infrastructure officials, and the contractor of the project, conducted a walkabout to physically verify information contained in the report.

Collingwood Primary School was badly affected by storm damage that saw all the buildings being blown away and flooded. Learners had to be temporarily housed in park homes while awaiting the completion of this ultra-modern school.

In a statement, the KZN Department of Education said the project’s contractor was impressed with the progress of the work being carried out at the school.

The entire school is being rebuild to meet the needs of learners of Collingwood Primary.

The new building comprises:

  • Grade R classes
  • Standard classrooms
  • Multipurpose classrooms
  • Media centres
  • Administration block
  • Guard house
  • Fencing and sports fields.

The learners and teachers eagerly await the opening of the school which is projected to be completed in 2026.
