NOTIFICATION OF MAJOR HAZARD INSTALLATION
•OFFSITE PIPELINES Notice is hereby given that the offsite pipeline system operated by the Air ProductsVanderbijlpark facility has been designated as a Major Hazard Installation (MHI) underthe Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act No. 85 of 1993) and the MHI Regulationsof 2022. The installation consists of pipelines supplying gaseous hydrogen at highpressure to various customers. The pipelines originate from the source facility at thecnr Delfos & McColm Boulevard, Vanderbijlpark, and extend to customers in Springsthrough Heidelberg.The pipeline system has been assessed for potential major accidents including lossof containment, fire and explosion, and high-pressure gas releases. Areas typicallylocated close to this pipeline, includes the Heidelberg area via the R42 road..In compliance with the requirements of the MHI Regulations, Air Products is takingall necessary measures to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmentalstandards. These measures include:` Conducting a detailed risk assessment Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) andimplementing all the recommendations.` Notifying the Chief inspector, the relevant Chief Director: provincial operationsand local government.` The MHI Risk Assessment report will be made available for public review andconsultation. We invite members of the public, nearby communities, and otherstakeholders to review the risk assessment and share their comments, concerns,or suggestions.
