NOTIFICATION OF MAJOR HAZARD INSTALLATION
•OFFSITE PIPELINES Notice is hereby given that the offsite pipeline system operated by the Air ProductsVanderbijlpark facility has been designated as a Major Hazard Installation (MHI) underthe Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act No. 85 of 1993) and the MHI Regulations of2022. The installation consists of pipelines supplying gaseous hydrogen at high pressureto various customers. The pipelines originate from the source facility at the cnr Delfos &McColm Boulevard, Vanderbijlpark, and extend to customers in Springs.The pipeline system has been assessed for potential major accidents including loss ofcontainment, fire and explosion, and high-pressure gas releases. Areas typically locatedclose to this pipeline in the Springs area include Tsakane, Duduza and Kwa- Thema viaMain reef road.In compliance with the requirements of the MHI Regulations, Air Products is takingall necessary measures to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmentalstandards. These measures include:` Conducting a detailed risk assessment Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) andimplementing all the recommendations.` Notifying the Chief inspector, the relevant Chief Director: provincial operationsand local government.` The MHI Risk Assessment report will be made available for public review andconsultation. We invite members of the public, nearby communities, and otherstakeholders to review the risk assessment and share their comments, concerns,or suggestions.
