NOTICE MABYOKO APPLICATION FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION IN TERMS OF THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ACT, ACT NO. 107 1998 (NEMA) FOR THE PROPOSED NEW 220 BED MPUMALANGA SPECIALIZED PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL IN EMALAHLENI ON THE FARM KROMDRAAI 292 JS WITHIN EMALAHLENI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY OF NKANGALA DISTRICT IN MPUMALANGA PROVINCE
DESCRIPTION: Notice is hereby given in terms of Regulation 41(2) published in Government Notice 326 of NEMA, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations of 2014, as amended intending to carry out the following activity: The Department of Public Works, Roads & Transport (DPWRT) intends to construct a new 220 bed specialized and psychiatric hospital which will be comprised of the following: The main hospital, Training centre, Forensic Unit, Geriatric ward, Staff houses, Staff & public parking area. The total footprint of the hospital development will be `98 044.94 m2 (9. 8044 hectares) on a total area of 100 hectares. The development triggers NEMA Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations of 2014 as amended, GN No. 325 (Listing Notice 2) of 07 April 2017, Activity No. 15- `The clearance of an area of 20 hectares or more of indigenous vegetation, excluding where such clearance of indigenous vegetation is required for- i)The undertaking of a linear activity; or ii)Maintenance purposes undertaken in accordance with a maintenance management plan`
Scoping and full Environmental Impact Assessment process will be followed for the application of an Environmental Authorisation for the proposed development. LOCATION: The proposed specialized and psychiatric hospital development will be located along R555 road in Emalahleni (Witbank) on the farm Kromdraai 292 JS within Emalahleni Local Municipality of Nkangala District in Mpumalanga Province.The geographical co-ordinates for the development are: 25 50` 16.7` S and 29 14` 53.9` E.
Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) are invited to register and to participate by providing comments and raising any issues of concern that they may have regarding the proposed hospital development.
