What was the point of beach clean-up?

Why did these children, who had taken pride in joining in the collection, now cause the very same rubbish and litter that they had been collecting?

EDITOR – Last Saturday morning my wife and I took a trip to Brighton Beach and sat on the steps a short distance from the lifesavers club.

On the beach and surrounding area there were loads of adults and children of all ages with plastic bags collecting rubbish and litter in what seemed to be a very organised event and appeared from what we could see to be a very successful one.

After they were finished, many of the adults and children sat on the steps not far from us and had lunch. Imagine our dismay when we saw some of the not so young children who had been involved in the collection of the rubbish and litter throw the bones from the chicken and other food stuff that they had been eating down onto the steps, near where we were sitting.

Why did these children, who had taken pride in joining in the collection, now cause the very same rubbish and litter that they had been collecting?
