EDITOR – This is a belated letter that I am addressing to the Bluff community.
On Saturday, 12 April, my little red Uno was stolen from outside the Dutch Club on the Bluff.
Thanks to the generosity of the Bluff community and Rake Jeeves, R10,000 was raised towards another car. I cannot believe that people were so kind, concerned and generous. Thank you. What more can I say?
Once I was over the initial shock of my stolen car, my first thought was how am I going to feed the beach cats. However, friends and strangers who heard of my plight came to my assistance. Seven days a week these people, namely Cobi, Taryn, Louise, Chantel, Bev and Ivan took me to the beach to feed the cats. Louise went a step further and every Saturday morning, she took me to the Glenwood Centre where I hold a book sale to raise funds to feed all the cats.
Unfortunately, that was not the end of my problems. A few weeks later my cell phone was stolen and we all know what it means when you lose all your contacts. They say that things happen in threes. My third misfortune and the reason for this late letter, was I ended up in hospital with vertigo and bronchitis. On discharge, a week later I was back in the same hospital having emergency surgery and a week after that I was back again.
However, having been a reasonably healthy person all my life I’m pleased to say I am now on the road to recovery. I would like to mention that during this difficult time I had a friend Jessica, who came to my house every day at 5am to cook for and feed all 65 cats, including those at the beach.
Again, thank you to you all.
JEAN JACOBS (the cat lady)
