Fynnland FC ends 2014 season on high note

FYNNLAND Football Club ended the 2014 football season with an amazing run in the cup competitions, having a representative side in five of the six finals and emerging victorious in three.
The first team did battle against Highway United in the Premier Division Cup final and as expected, the game was a close and hard fought encounter.
Ethan gave Fynnland FC an early lead with a well-taken goal. Midway through the second half, Highway equalised, setting up an exciting final 20 minutes. With eight minutes remaining, Steven Short put Fynnland into the lead. Highway mounted an all-out attack on the Fynnland goal but with some fine saves by goalkeeper Bradda and some brave defending, Fynnland held onto the 2-1 score line and claimed the cup.
In the Premier Reserve Division final, Fynnland FC second side proved their superiority by adding the cup winners title to their league champions title. Fynnland FC were always in control of the game and won comfortably 3-0 against Twini FC. Kreo opened the scoring early in the first half, followed by a goal scored by Cammy midway through the second half. Garth got the third goal to seal the game for Fynnland FC.
In a nail-biting U15 final, Fynnland FC won the game 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out against Escombe FC. The game started briskly with Gershon giving Fynnland the lead in the first five minutes. Ten minutes later it was 2-0 after Tiago drove the ball into the net from just outside the big box. On the stroke of half time, Escombe pulled a goal back from the penalty spot. Five minutes from time Escombe grabbed the equaliser after sustained pressure. Fynnland took the lead in the second period of extra time with another well-taken goal from Tiago. Escombe took the game into a penalty shoot-out equalising with the last kick of extra time. Both teams scored their first penalties, sending the shoot-out into sudden death. Escombe missed their sixth spot kick and with the weight of the cup on his shoulders, Ryan held his nerve and composure and slotted his kick home to give Fynnland the victory. Man of the match went to the Fynnland’s goalkeeper, Spar, who kept his team in the game with some brilliant saves throughout the match.
In a hard fought battle, the U13 team went down 0-2 to Forest Hills. Fynnland FC enjoyed majority of possession but it was just one of those days when the ball would not go into the net. Even though they lost, the coach and all of the players can feel proud of their achievement in reaching the finals and representing the club with honour. This team has shown tremendous growth this season and a lot is expected of them next season.
Although the U11A team did not reach the finals, they still did an excellent job in reaching the semi-finals, going down 0-2 to Highway who went on to win the finals.
In the U17 final, Fynnland FC lost to Escombe FC by three goals to nil.
The club congratulates all the coaches and players on an outstanding achievement, the bar has been set and the expectations for next season are high.
