Norman, Phil, Val and Johan win Wanderers skins
Harold Dix’s team of himself with Allan Bouwer, John Campbell and Andy Cloete ended up with the sportsman’s prize with a 3-16.

NOT a single club competition match was played in a week in which club competitions inexplicably ground to a halt at Durban Wanderers Bowling Club.
There were, however two club events played out. On Wednesday the Roadrunner’s pairs attracted 14 teams. Robbie Carr won R40 and Derek Stevens R20 in the 60/40 board draw.
Dennis Gericke won the meat raffle, and the lotto numbers of 2-8-10 were not chosen resulting in a carry over. Colin Nicholas and Johan Nel won the first session with the score of 2 + 7, Ken Thomas and George Harris bettered that score with a 2 + 20 to win the second session and the overall winners on the day were Dennis Gericke and Eric Redman with 4 + 22. A good day for Dennis.
Last Sunday’s Rawson’s Fours skins attracted fourteen teams, two of those playing in this event for the first time. Namely Rod Butler and Harold Dix and their teams, and a warm welcome was extended to each of them. Harold Dix’s team of himself with Allan Bouwer, John Campbell and Andy Cloete ended up with the sportsman’s prize with a 3-16. (Let’s hope they come again). First session went to Queensburgh’s Duncan Buckthorpe, Shawn Sadler, Red Slogrove and Marc Rodgers with 9+11. Second session went to Mike and Jackie Freeman, Jo-Anne Jordaan and Joe McNamara with a 10+12. Third place finishers and winning themselves each a R50 Wimpy voucher were Arnie and Rina Harper, Gwen Tait and Lionel De La Rey with 14 points and a plus 23. Second place overall with the score of 16 plus 9 was attained by the ‘other’ newbie team comprising Rod Butler, his wife Anna-Marie, Allan Wadsworth and Richard Pieterse and they each won R100 Spur meal voucher. Overall winners and on the perch for next month was the team of Norman Moore, Phil and Val Pieterse and Johan Nel with the score of 17 + 4.
Two 60/40 boards were drawn, the respective winners being Dave Arnold and Lofty Cawthorne (R40 each) while Richard Kitchen and Ken Koch took the lesser R20 spoils. Lofty had popped in to watch the final stages of play. He is steadily recovering from a stroke that put him out of action – hopefully for a temporary period. Chris Klopper who recently single-handedly renovated our shabby looking 60/40 board into a sparkling and bold masterpiece, deservedly won the huge pork roast on offer, and as an ex-butcher will surely know what to do with it to make it delicious.
A proposition to change the format of this event from fours to pairs was put to the vote and it was decided to stay ‘as is’. It was also decided to hold the event next month on 21 December in spite of its proximity to Christmas.
This scribe humbly apologises to John Campbell for last week wrongly naming him as John Ferguson.
Last Friday the R1,700 snowball was not run as Jacob Boyce was not present. It therefore escalates to R1,800 for next Friday, 21 November. The various winners of the meat draw were: Mutton pack Jeff Bolt; pork roast and chops Eric and Patti; chicken pack Carl Van Rooyen; rump steak Mitch Mitchley; pork ribs Thomas Simpkins; chicken Allan Roberts.
