Colin, Phil win inaugural chicken run contest at Wentworth BC

Saturday afternoon saw a large group of bowlers put their tabs in to play for substantial sponsored prizes.

A NEW monthly competition has been initiated at Wentworth Bowling Club.

On the second Sunday of each month, a chicken run tabs-in will be held.

The first chicken run was won by Colin Nicholas and Phil Hill. In second place were Terry Micholson and Ann Bonthrone. The sportsmen’s prize went to Maria Cavanagh and Thys Moolman. The raffled pork roast went the way of Rob Armstrong.

The Family and Friends development bowls played on Wednesday afternoon was won by Colin Howes and Hennie Marais. Dudley Sanders and Johnny ‘Mooiman’ du Plessis were awarded the biscuit prize. Colin Howes also pocketed the first prize on the 60/40 board and Ann Bonthrone took the second prize.

The community is invited to take advantage of the Family and Friends development bowls initiative played on Wednesday afternoons at 3pm. Club coaches are available from 1.30pm on a Wednesday. Anyone wishing to learn the game and its rules or brush up on the basics of the game can contact John Somerville on 083-512-4440.

On Saturday morning, the final of the women’s drawn pairs was played between Sharon de Kock and Ann Bonthrone who took on Cheryl Waterman and Jenny Greef. In a closely fought contest, it was Sharon and Ann who emerged victorious to claim the trophy for 2016.

Winners were Spider Williams and Rod Armstrong who won meat hampers sponsored by Bluff Meat Supply. In second place were Eileen and Johnny du Plessis who won pamper vouchers donated by Maggie Faure. Cora van der Westuizen and Herbie Roux finished the afternoon’s bowls in third place and were rewarded with a money prize. Thanks are extended to Bokka van der Westhuizen who put up enough money to ensure that almost every team left with a prize.

The teams for the annual teddy bear competition which will be played against women from Bluff BC have been selected and posted. The women are asked to check the notice board.

The kitchen is open from Tuesday to Sunday, offering delicious, home cooked meals. Call Steven or Bronwyn on 071-550-8487 or on 074-603-0033 for daily menu details and take-away orders. Catering for Christmas functions is available and companies and clubs are invited to contact the kitchen to book for these.

The hall is available for hire for private functions and braai facilities are on offer for corporate functions and team building events. The big screen can be set up to watch sporting highlights. Contact the club on 031-467-7103 for details.
