Packed 3-2-1 killer bowls a walk-over for winners

WHILE a huge 36 players turned up to contest Bluff Bowling Club’s June and Glynis 3-2-1 killer competition on Friday, the competition should have been a nail-biting affair.
However, the results show otherwise.
Winners were Wessie van der Westhuizen and Herman van Zyl on 4+56, first session went to George Harris and Andy Cloete with 2+26 and second session to Andy Jones and Ron Addinall on 2+30. Nine touches saw Andy Jones take the prize on a count out, the board went to Dudley Dorrofield, the meat to Steve Evenwell and finally the sportsman’s prize to Dudley Dorrofield and Neil Smith. The attendance draw and the lotto were not won this week.
Saturday saw six competitions being played but the main focus was on two finals. The men’s open singles champion for this year is Robert Mhlongo who beat Dave le Roux in a tight game. Robert now represents the club in the Champion of Champions. The other final was the novice singles where Louise du Plessis beat Cheryl Bower to hold the title for this year.
In men’s drawn pairs, Dudley Dorrofield and Sheldon Wicks beat Noel Morel and Kurt Spack. In the second game, Gary Moffat and Harvey Simpkin beat Spider Williams and Ryan Warren. In the women’s nominated pairs Elize Stapelberg and Chrissie Smith beat June Foster and Phyllis Maritz and Janice Rodgers and Dawn Spack beat Lilah Nel and Ronel Morel.
On Sunday the Diving Bell any pairs was played. Winners were Terry Michelson and Dave Carroll who now replace Robert Mhlongo and Ryan Warren on the perch, who only managed to win the first session. Second session was won by Spider Williams and Rob Armstrong, while the board went to Dudley Dorrofield again and the meat to Phil Hill.
The men’s and women’s league continues this weekend after a short break. The men’s A side is at home to Amanzimtoti and the B side is away to Hillcrest as is the women’s B side who play Firwood, the women’s A side plays Durban at Parkhill. Note the women’s games start at 12.30pm and the men at 1pm.
Enter the annual vegetable derby on Friday, 23 June at 7pm. This is usually a great evening and a chance to fleece the bookmakers.
