WBC’s Coetzee, Cloete claim 15 shot win in pairs bowls

The weekly development bowls played on Wednesday afternoons was won by Eileen du Plessis and Dudley Sanders.

THE Chicken Shack pairs bowls played at Wentworth Bowling Club saw Eric Coetzee and Tom Cloete accumulate a resounding plus 35 to take top spot on the podium and claim the prize money.

In second place, 15 shots behind, were Chris Pozyn and Luvoyo Ndaba.

Second session went the way of Colin Howes and Sharon de Kock. Jumbo Nel was the winner on the 60/40 board and Ann Bonthrone claimed the second prize. The raffled roast was won by a happy Rob Armstrong and Brian Osman left the club with the whisky prize.

The Bluff Meat Supply men’s bowls was won by Brian Smith and his team of Tom Cloete and Henry Welgemoed. Jumbo, Nel, Joe McNamara and Ivor Aylward did enough to claim second prize. Sportsmen’s prize was awarded to Colin Nicolas, Shaun Sutherland and Victor McCreamer. A beaming Robin de Gouviea took home the raffled pork roast and Phil Hill happily packed the roast beef into his bag. Two 60/40 boards were drawn. Winners were Ken Koch and Albert van Niekerk. Second prize takers were Jumbo Nel and Dave le Roux.

The women made a clean sweep on the 60/40 board when Jay Retief and Ruth Petzer’s numbers were pulled from the bag. Members of the community who would like to try their hand at the game of bowls are invited to the club on Wednesdays at 3pm.

Congratulations are extended to the women’s first side which has not yet dropped a point in the league.
