Hikers to explore mangroves and falls this weekend

Durban Ramblers Hiking Club has two hikes planned for this weekend

JOIN Durban Ramblers Hiking Club as it sets out to explore parts of Hillcrest and the Beachwood mangroves this weekend.

Leader Werner will guide hikers through the NU Driving Range in Hillcrest to McIntosh Falls on Saturday, 3 November.

Call Werner on 084-206-7836 to find out more about this grade three-plus outing of about 6kms.

This hike traverses farmland to the top of McIntosh Falls, with a scramble to the bottom of the falls and a steep return climb. Parking costs R20 per car. Meet at 1.45pm at NU Driving Range (left off M13 at exit 31, opposite Plantations Estate). Park away from the entrance to the driving range (golfers’ privilege).


On Sunday, 4 November hikers will undertake a 12km hike at the Beachwood mangroves, which will take in the river and beach.

This is a walk through the Beachwood Mangrove Reserve and along the river and across the beach. There is a R30 donation per person towards the reserve. Take your cozzies along if you want to swim. Meet at 8am at the Pick ’n Pay Hyper Durban North (southern parking lot).
