Head out with Ramblers weekend hikers

JOIN Durban Ramblers Hiking Club on its two outings this weekend.

On Saturday, 16 March hikers will head out to Winston Park into Stockville Valley.

Hike leader Werner (084-206-7836) will guide hikers through this 8km grade four, strenuous hike from Winston Park into the Conservancy through private property. This includes a steep descent and return ascent. Hikers will enjoy drinks afterwards at Gillitts Centre. Meet at 1.45pm at Gillitts Post Office parking area.

On Sunday, 17 March, hikers will cover about 18kms of the Illovo River trail with hike leader Anna Kapp on 071-427-7139.

This 18km grade three (moderate) hike follows Illovo River and then heads along the sand to Winkle Beach, before returning through cane fields to the Illovo Brewery parking. Sadly, the brewery has moved. Directions: A little way after Kingsburgh, take the 133 off-ramp and turn right onto the R603. Continue until you see the Illovo industrial sign on the left, where you will turn left and continue all the way down to the green buildings in the dip on the left. Stop at the gate and tell the guards you are there for walking, and ask where you should park. There is a lift share (at R35 where there are four people travelling together) from Glenwood Village at 7.30am. The hike starts at 8.15am at Illovo Brewery. BYO for drinks afterwards.
