#BokFriday: Locals have faith in Springboks winning the cup

Springbok supporters will be glued to their TV screens on Sunday evening when the Springboks take on France in the quarter-finals.

AS the Springboks get ready to take on France in the quarter-finals of the World Rugby Cup on October 15, South Africans share their thoughts on what they think will be the outcome of the match and if the team will make it to the semi-finals.

Ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon said she cannot wait to watch another exhilarating match played by the Springboks and added that she is absolutely sure the Boks will bring home the cup. “Bokke for the win. France has the home advantage, but we are behind our boys all the way,” she said.

Clive Smith.

Avid Bokke fan Clive Smith, chairperson of the Yellowwood Park Sports Club, is confident that the Springboks will bring victory home. He will be watching the quarter-final match at the club on Sunday. Smith said, “South Africa has named an experienced line-up to take on France. Interestingly, 15 of them featured in the 2019 line-up. My money is on a win, probably not by a big margin. It will be a tight game but a giant step towards bringing the cup home.”

Bulelani Mapuko.

Bluff Christian Academy learner Bulelani Mapuko said she will have her fingers crossed and pray that South Africa wins the quarter-finals before she goes to bed on Sunday. She will not be watching the match on Monday as she has to go to sleep early for school on Sunday night.

Nhlakanipho Mabena and Nosipho Mfeka.

Rugby fans, Nhlakanipho Mabena and Nosipho Mfeka, have been following the World Cup matches when time allows, and they are sure that South Africa will win the quarter-finals and the semi-finals.

Tanya Weweje.

Tanya Wejeje said, “The Bokke are definitely going to win the match and go through to the semi-finals because they are the best.  My score prediction is 12–8. Good luck, Bokke; South Africa is rooting for you; bring the trophy home!”

Nicholas Leonard.

Nicholas Leonard said, “It’s going to be a difficult game because France have home-ground advantage and they play very exciting rugby. But, my heart is always green and gold. The Bokke are the reigning world champions and we know how to win world cups. So, yes, we will win! I’m not certain of the score, but I believe it will be a close one – within seven points – and I think it will go down to the wire. A nail-biter. However, we are a nation that knows how to overcome and rise above. The Springboks are a symbol of our South African spirit. Bokke, you have the whole country behind you and regardless of the colour of our jersey, you represent the six colours of our flag. GO BOKKE. Bring it home!”
