Traffic wardens shot and injured in Eldorado Park

Gunfire erupted during a routine stop-and-search in Eldorado Park, wounding two officers. Read how quick action helped contain the threat.

Twenty-one Gauteng traffic wardens attached to the Eldorado Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, accompanied by their provincial inspector, carried out stop-and-search operations on Boundary Road, Eldorado Park, Ext 9, on June 7.

During the search, the members stopped at Minos Fast Foods. While waiting for their order, they heard several gunshots.

They responded immediately at the passage of 38a Cumming Road, Old Eldorado Park.

Suddenly, a male opened fire, injuring two members – one in the right leg. The other’s bulletproof vest had two bullet holes in the back.

Both were taken to the Milpark Netcare Hospital for treatment. The remaining members spread out, forming a perimeter to block the man’s escape.

The provincial inspector aimed his service pistol at the man, commanding him to surrender and drop the firearm with his hands raised. The man complied.

He was arrested and detained at the Eldorado Park SAPS for further investigation. He will soon appear in a magistrate’s court.
