Murdered son’s mother questions justice after bail granted to suspect

The mother of Siphelele Moshiane, who died after a brutal beating, says she was misinformed about court proceedings and is unhappy with how the case was handled.

Nomsa Mazibuko, the mother of murdered Siphelele Moshiane, shared her grievances about how her son’s murder case was handled with the Urban News.

Moshiane was beaten to death in Pimville Zone 1 on May 11 and died a day later from internal bleeding.

Seeking justice, Mazibuko said she trusted the justice system because the Kliptown Police Station opened a case.

However, she was displeased with their handling of the case.

She said, “The investigating officer handling the case told me not to attend court. My instinct was to send a representative so they would know what was going on, and what I found was that the suspect was granted bail.”

She added that she was unhappy with this because the officer told her the family did not need to appear in court.

The suspect appeared in court on June 9, was granted bail, and will reappear on August 14.

The communications officer for the Kliptown Police Station, Captain Ngwenya, said, “There appears to have been miscommunication between the mother and the investigating officer.

“Whenever there is a court appearance, the family is advised of the date.

“The suspect was granted bail by the court, and unfortunately, we, as police officers, cannot control that. The suspect being granted bail does not mean he is innocent.”

Mazibuko has been offered trauma counselling and will attend sessions to help with the trauma she has endured.
