Inquest opened after body of missing child found in stormwater drain
Police launched a search after he was reported missing on August 2. Investigations are ongoing.

An inquest docket has been opened at Naledi Police Station following the tragic discovery of eight-year-old Siyabonga Mkhwanazi’s body in a stormwater drainage hole in Emdeni on August 5.
According to Johannesburg District’s corporate communication co-ordinator, Mpho Tshetlhane, the child’s family reported him missing on August 2 after realising he was not at home.
Police resources, including the Search and Rescue Unit, were mobilised and launched a thorough investigation, which eventually led officers to a stormwater drain along the street.

“The hole was inspected, and the body of the deceased was later identified and retrieved. Paramedics certified him dead at the scene,” said Tshetlhane.
He added that police investigations are ongoing.
District Commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka thanked all stakeholders, including community members who assisted during the search.
