Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni said illicit alcohol not only harms the country’s economy but also poses serious health risks to communities, as some substances used in its production may be dangerous.

He commended the officers involved for cracking down on illicit alcohol and urged consumers to purchase alcohol only from registered liquor outlets.

The two arrested foreign nationals are expected to appear in court on January 19 on charges of illegal manufacturing of alcohol, in contravention of the National Liquor Act 59 of 2003.
