Soweto areas begin water recovery after Eikenhof maintenance completed

Johannesburg Water says restoration is underway after Rand Water completed maintenance ahead of schedule.

Johannesburg Water has confirmed that planned maintenance on Rand Water’s Eikenhof system, which affected parts of Soweto and Roodepoort Deep, has been completed ahead of schedule.

According to a statement released by the utility, water supply is being restored gradually as pipelines are charged at a controlled pace to stabilise pressure across the network. Affected systems are currently in a gradual mode of recovery following the completion of the maintenance work.

Johannesburg Water stated that direct-fed areas are expected to recover first, while areas supplied via reservoirs may take between three and five days to fully normalise.

The entity said it continues to monitor system levels and performance and may apply configuration changes to boost systems where applicable.

Alternative supply will also continue to be provided to the communities that have been affected until the normal supply is restored.

The systems will be closely monitored in the restoration phase to ensure that stability and safe functioning are achieved.

Johannesburg Water has asked customers in areas that were not affected to use water sparingly in order to help restore the service. This is all that has been communicated so far regarding necessary adjustments to operational processes.
