Ways to reduce Uber hijackings and robberies in Eldorado Park discussed

The meeting comes after a video was shared on social media where one Pimville resident received mob justice for allegedly working with the hijackers.

The Eldorado Park SAPS together with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) convened a community meeting on Tuesday last week to address the high rate of E-Hailing hijackings and robberies in the area.

Extension Four in Eldorado Park has been identified as one of the hotspot areas for these crimes.

The meeting was also to encourage parents to question their children when coming home with items that they know nothing about and report them to the police.

Community meeting between the CPF and SAPS

Concerns over the safety of E-Hailing drivers in Eldorado Park has been ongoing for years with some even deciding not to work in the area.

During the meeting, residents voiced out their dissatisfaction regarding service delivery issues such as the cutting of grass which contributes to crime.

“The suspects hide in those long grasses and wait patiently for their next victim without being seen.

“The high rate of these crimes in our communities is also the result of the high unemployment rate,” said one resident during the meeting.

The community ended up agreeing that they are willing to work hand in hand with the Eldorado Park SAPS in order to end the E-Hailing hijackings and robberies in the area.
