Drowned man’s body recovered from river in Doornkop

Divers from Gauteng Police Emergency recovered the body of a 30-year-old man from a river in Doornkop, after responding to a reported drowning.

Divers from Gauteng Police Emergency’s Johannesburg Water Policing and Diving Services recovered the body of a man from the river on Sunday, July 12.

According to Gauteng Police Emergency, the diving team was dispatched to a reported drowning in Thulani, Doornkop, at around noon.

On arrival, the divers recovered the man’s body using a Stokes basket before handing it over to members of the Doornkop SAPS.

An inquest docket has been opened, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Gauteng Police Emergency has urged the public to exercise caution when entering rivers, dams and other open water to help prevent drownings.

People taking part in activities on or near water are advised to wear life jackets. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to educate children about the dangers of open water and ensure they are supervised at all times.
