Better sporting facilities for Bosmont
Sports facilities in our community haven’t been on top of the list when it came to development in the area.
Sports facilities in our community haven’t been on top of the list when it came to development in the area. This lead to facilities deteriorating, however, the Bosmont Football Association (BFA) ensured that the legacy and the future recreational and sporting facilities are being improved.
In 2013, there was an announcement that Murray and Dickson Construction would be embarking on the laying of the Randwater Q5 pipeline, from Northcliff water tower to the connection situated on the D pitch – (Spitskop & Maroela) streets in Bosmont.
According to Michael Khan, the Deputy Chairperson of BFA, it would affect our G & H Junior fields, the A and D pitches.

“We were advised two weeks before they broke ground. Totally disrupting our ability to organise association football. In laying the pipeline they found that the old dressing rooms in front of the tennis courts were built on the pipeline. As a result, this had to be demolished. The agreement with Randwater was that they would rehabilitate the environment to its previous state or better,” explained Khan.
When the project was completed in 2016, (18 months longer than planned). The BFA was presented with plans for new dressing rooms. “We rejected the plans on the grounds that we were not consulted and provision was not made for the disabled, no offices, no flat or a caretaker room, among the problems with their plans,” said Khan.
New plans were then redrawn to Johannesburg Metro and BFA requirements. The building of the facility started in 2016 and was completed in 2017.

BFA refused to accept the building in 2017 until all amenities such as sewerage, water and electricity were properly installed. Towards the end of 2017 Johannesburg Metro was satisfied that all outstanding issues were dealt with and officially accepted the building from Randwater.
On March 10, the BFA was happy to accept the use of the building from Johannesburg Metro for the start of the 2018 football season. Phil Mogodi, president of South African Football Association (SAFA) Johannesburg told attendees how he played for the association when he was young and the principals he learned from the BFA.
Faried Loonat, acting assisting director of Sports and Recreation, for Region B handed over the keys to the BFA Chairman Isaac de Jongh.
