Blast to return a fortune
Whoever made the decision to move Blast from Port Elizabeth to Kimberley deserves high praise indeed.
The son of Windrush has scored two impressive victories in two outings at Flamingo Park.
Already a two-time winner when in the care of Yvette Bremner in the Eastern Cape, the four-year-old gelding has blossomed further since coming under the tutelage of Tienie Prinsloo. His last Fairview run was in July when a 2.80-length eighth behind Mesmerize and it was only in October when Blast had his first race at Flamingo Park. It was over 1000m and clearly the work was good as he went off at 28-10 and duly obliged, easily beating One Cool Cat by two lengths.
A fortnight later Blast lined up in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1200m and once again, under the guidance of Andrew Fortune, he coasted home to beat La Tourelle by 1.25 lengths. Today Blast lines up in Race 4 at Flamingo Park, another Pinnacle Stakes but this time over 1400m.
The distance should prove no problem as he has won over 1400m at Fairview and placed twice in four starts over the trip. Fortune is once again in the irons and they will jump from barrier No 3.
Blast is not the best handicapped runner, that honour goes to stable companion Pontedera who has been contesting races over 1800m and 2200m so could find this a little too short.
First Answer did not seem to enjoy 1600m last time but a return to his favourite distance could make him the biggest threat to Blast. Muzi Yeni rides for Corrie Lensley.
Olympic Owen could also be a threat if in a galloping mood.
