Danielson set for PE double
Unannounced has regained his form in no uncertain manner since arriving at the Tara Laing stable in Port Elizabeth.
This Australian-bred son of Snitzel is unbeaten in three starts at Fairview and judged by the manner of his last win the Fairview Merchants, Race 7 today, should make it No 4.
As a three-year-old he was regarded as one of the most promising sprinters in the country. He won his first six starts, quite an achievement for any horse, over distances of 1000m, 1100m and 1200m. He showed tremendous courage when winning some of those events but it all went awry when he was tried over further.
His first taste of defeat came at the hands of Depardieu in the Grade 3 Byerley Turk over 1400m at Scottsville in which he finished second and then then he was used as a pacesetter for Variety Club in the Grade 2 Guineas at Greyville. The 1600m was clearly too far and he trailed in 16 lengths behind his stablemate.
At that point Unannounced had a merit rating of 108 but as he lost form that came down to 76. After three wins in Port Elizabeth he is still only running currently racing off a 93 which means now he has regained his confidence, and has a plenty more fuel in the tank. His last win was exceptional and there is no reason why his run should not continue.
He should be one of the best bets on the card but Raymond Danielson, who rides Unannounced, should have another top ride in Race 2, where he is aboard Crown Of Gold. The six-year-old son of Silvano is well weighted to win this Conditions Stakes over 2400m and is another runner who has flourished in Port Elizabeth. He has a record of four wins and one second from five starts but is unbeaten with Danielson in the saddle.
