Follow Ramsden at Kenilworth
Trainer Joey Ramsden could be heading for a good day at Kenilworth today.
He has a number of decent runners but the two who stand out are Chevauchee in Race 2 and In The Cruise in Race 6.
Chevauchee, in particular, looks to be a possible future star. The Australian-bred filly won with authority on debut over 1200m but she let the side done a little second time out when she could only manage a 1.25-length runner-up berth behind Bela-Bela. However, on closer scrutiny even that run was not a disaster.
The winner also looks to be useful and the fact the connections were happy to back her despite having to contend with the reputation of Chevauchee, indicates Bela-Bela has some ability. The second problem was that Ramsden’s charge did not handle the bend very well and that could be reason she has been brought back to racing over a straight 1200m course.
The daughter of High Chaparral is not the best weighted runner in the field – in fact she is 6kg badly handicapped against Folk Law – but is clearly better than her last run and should stamp her class on this event.
In The Cruise runs in a MR 86 Handicap over 1400m and looks overdue for a win. He was rested from August to October and had two excellent runs since his return. His first comeback run saw him finish a 0.75-length second behind Kirumbo over 1300m at Durbanville with 63kg on his back and followed that up by running a 0.20-length second behind Sheer Trouble in a MR 95 Handicap over 1400m. However, that race was on the Winter Course with the shorter run-in whereas this race will be on the Summer Course with the longer run-in and that will suit In The Cruise.
