Garibondy best in KZN Stakes

Trainer Paul Lafferty will be hoping to pull off a feature double over the weekend with Harry’s Son in the Grade 1 SA Classic and Garibondy in the Listed KwaZulu-Natal Stakes over 1000m Scottsville today.

Clearly Harry’s Son would be the cherry on the cake if he could win the R2-million race at Turffontein but speedy Garibondy is a useful performer on her day and has established an excellent record of five wins and a third place over the course and distance. The key for the daughter of Var is for the going to be on top as she is not too fond of running in the wet. Sean Cormack gets the ride.

The main danger has to be Pej, trained by Charles Laird and to be ridden by Anton Marcus. She has placed in both of her races at the track but there is little doubt the daughter of Kahal would be better over 1200m. Unlike Garibondy, she would relish any give in the ground.

Others with chances include Clear Sailing, Flying Loot and Party Peg.
