International Jockey’s Challenge teams ready to race

The last six editions of the ‘Racing. It's a Rush’ International Jockey's Challenge has been dominated by the South African team and the riders selected for this year's edition will look to keep the trend going.

With victory in four of the last six renewals, the six South African riders have been selected to take on an international team of jockeys with S’manga Khumalo leading the charge of the two-leg series that takes place at Turffontein on November 15 and at Kenilworth on November 16.

Khumalo will captain the team after he claimed the national jockey’s championship last season and will be joined by Richard Fourie, Anthony Delpech, Muzi Yeni, Bernard Fayd’Herbe and Pierre Strydom, a rider on the verge of claiming 5 000 career wins.

The international team will comprise of French jockey Gregory Benoist – who returns after a successful appearance last year – with Andreas Helfenbein representing Germany. Selim Kaya from Turkey, Martin Harley from Ireland and the United Kingdom’s James Doyle and Adam Kirby makes up the rest of the team.

The format of the event sees the riders slug it out in four races in each of the two meetings with riders awarded points according to their finishing positions.
