Roll out Red Barrel at Fairview

The Tara Laing-trained runner has run 15 times in Port Elizabeth for eight wins and five places.

Roll out the barrel, actually called the Beer Barrel Polka, was popular song during World War II and it could be equally celebrated at Fairview Racecourse today if it is Red Barrel who gets rolled out in Race 5, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1400m on the turf.

The Tara Laing-trained runner has run 15 times in Port Elizabeth for eight wins and five places. He won six races on the trot at one stage but has only managed a second and third spot in his last two outings.

However, those runs were over 1600m and the seven-year-old son of Right Approach might enjoy this drop in distance as he has run three times over the course and distance for two and a second place.

Under the race conditions and although he has 62kg on his back, he is at least 1.5kg better handicapped with any other runner and he again teams up with Raymond Danielson, who seems to get the best out of Red Barrel. They jump from barrier No 6.

He does look the best bet on what is a very tricky card but if he is to get rolled over rather than rolled out, it could be his new stable companion, Readytogorightnow, who could bring him down.

This Australian-bred gelding has just joined the Laing stable from Justin Snaith and is a six-time winner. He has a win over King Of Pain to his credit and has finished close up behind the likes of Futura, Legislate and Captain America.

He has gone off the boil recently but will be a danger if the change of scenery has done him some good.
