SA jockeys eye Challenge title

The top individual jockey at yesterday’s event was Frenchman Aurelien Lemaitre with 59 points.

The South Africans will go into today’s second and final leg of the International Jockeys’ Challenge at Turffontein with a 17-point lead over their international rivals.

Led by Gavin Lerena, the locals narrowly came out tops at Fairview yesterday, scoring 219 points against the 202 of the visitors. The South Africans were probably needing to hold a bigger lead going into today’s meeting and will have to be at the top of their game to clinch the Challenge.

The top individual jockey at yesterday’s event was Frenchman Aurelien Lemaitre with 59 points. He was followed by South Africans Anton Marcus on 56 and S’manga Khumalo with 53. Lemaitre won the individual title on Crackpot in the final leg.
