Race 4 No 1 Silver Rose

At the age of seven, Andre Nel-trained Silver Rose has impressively not lost his zest for racing.

Because this is his third run after a layoff – he should no longer suffer the side effects of ring-rust.

He showed glimpses of his old self when runner-up behind Blackball in latest appearance. That was a run full of merit if you consider the fact Blackball has been dominating KwaZulu-Natal racing of late.

In Silver Rose’s defence, it also didn’t help that he was drawn worst of all on that occasion. He has run some of his best races over this 2400m trip, bagging a victory and two close-up thirds from his last four starts.

This makes him a worthy banker.

Race 2 No 4 Dancinginthewind

The jockey-trainer combination of multiple champion Anton Marcus and Johan Janse van Vuuren should boost their 25% win-strike rate when teaming up with ultra-consistent Dancinginthewind.

This thoroughbred has finished third in last two efforts and should relish the drop back to 1400m.

He clearly found 1900m a touch too far when beaten into third by Rain Dance last time out. He looked the winner turning for home but unfortunately ran out of puff in the dying stages.

That was Dancinginthewind’s first run at Greyville.

Although not disgraced, this gelding can do a lot better. Now that he is familiar with his surroundings and beautifully drawn at No 4, should finally leave the maiden ranks.
