Three cheers for Alzerra

The Dean Kannemeyer-trained Alzerra looked better and better after each run last year.

We need to look no further than her for a banker bet for the race meeting on the Polytrack at Greyville tonight.

This Jay Peg mare is unbeaten on this surface having won here in November when beating Secret Admirer over 1600m then in December she beat subsequent winner Lobelia by 1.25 lengths.

She has picked up penalties to the tune of eight points for those wins but it should not be enough to stop jockey Anthony Delpech booting home yet another winner for the Kannemeyer yard in Race 8, a FM 74 Handicap over 1600m.

The three-year-old Mad Pushpa has also improved with every run so is clearly unexposed and could be the only real threat.

Mad Pushpa found good betting support in her latest and it proved to be justified as she was a wide margin maiden winner over this course and distance.

Most of the racing on the night looks competitive but there are a few that may be worth considering if one is to punt.

First Apostle raced green and suffered interference on debut but still managed to do his best work late and he could be a cut above some modest sorts in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1600m.

Trainer Weiho Marwing has done particularly well when raiding Greyville and his charge Dark Liability should run well in race 6, a MR 91 Handicap over 1400m.

The Lundy’s Liability gelding was full of running when winning in November and only copped a three point penalty for that win.
