Elton Jantjies: Don’t panic over the Lions … or Damian Willemse

There are no panic stations in the Lions’ ranks despite losing three of their last four games in the Super Rugby competition, seasoned flyhalf Elton Jantjies believes.
After losing 14-8 to the Crusaders last weekend, the Lions will be keen to beat the Stormers at Ellis Park this weekend, their last game before going on tour after their bye the following week.
“I don’t see it as a tough time, it’s rather a lot of learning we are going through at the moment,” said Jantjies.
“But it’s something quick to fix, there are no major concerns for us, but we know the Stormers will be a massive challenge.”
Jantjies however believes his own performances will determine whether he will remain in national contention after sterling performances from the Bulls Handre Pollard and the Sharks’ Robert du Preez last weekend.
“I don’t compete against individuals, it’s all about this team,” he said.
On Saturday, Jantjies is up against another rising star in the Stormers’ Damian Willemse and it reminded Jantjies where he was a few seasons back.
“Damian just needs to keep on doing what he is doing,” he said.
“Because when you are a young player you sort of want to do your own thing. So he must just keep on feeding from the guys around him, it’s still a team effort.”
