McCarthy tipped for Buccaneers hot seat

Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza is said to be considering appointing former Pirates striker Benni McCarthy as the club's head coach.

The Sea Robbers have been without a head coach after the unceremonious resignation of Muhsin Ertugral in November last year. McCarthy’s name was bandied about to take over before the Turkish mentor, but now he has emerged as a strong candidate for the vacant post.

“Khoza wanted to continue with local coaches, he sees that Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer hciefs are hanging on to their local mentors, and he wouldn’t want to be the odd one out. Benni is available and he knows the culture of the club,” said a source at the club.
