Baxter knows what he wants with Shabba – Komphela

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter is a smart man and probably has a special duty lined up for Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Tshabalala received a surprise call-up when a team to face Senegal in the Fifa World Cup Qualifiers next week was announced.

At 33, not many had thought ‘Shabba’ would make a return as the team was being rebuilt in line with Vision 2022. But Shabba was named in a move that has received differing opinions from fans.

“Maybe I’m not qualified to make a comment about Shabba,” said Komphela. “But one thing is that he has worked with Stuart. Stuart is very smart coach and knows what he wants from Shabba otherwise he would not have picked him.

“Stuart said it some time ago that Shabba is a very influential player in the PSL and if Stuart says that… Today (Saturday) Cavin Johnson says Shabba was the main threat. That tells you about the player he is.

“His personality and character make him a big player,” added Komphela.
