Banyana ready to take on Chile

Despite having faced some difficulties in their trip, Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk says the team is ready to take on Chile in the first of their two international friendly matches in Vina del Mar today.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides and the Banyana skipper admitted to having little information on the style of the home side but watching a couple of videos has helped.

“The team has settled down nicely, we’ve had two training sessions already and everyone is ready and focused for the game on Saturday. We are really looking forward to it, excited to be playing opponents we have never played before.

“We know a little about them, we have watched some video clips of them, what they are about and their strengths. But I am pretty sure the coach will go in deeper of what to expect from the Chileans, but overall we are looking forward to the game and hopefully we can have a good result. ” said Van Wyk.

“It was a quite exhausting trip. We arrived in Brazil and found we had to fly in two groups to our destinations and we had some troubles with our bags, but it’s not the first time it has happened to some of us in the team at least.”

With the Las Chiscas de Rojo hosting an African nation for the first time, the Banyana skipper said it is tough for them, but again, it serves as a perfect opportunity for them to prepare for the Women’s Afcon in November.
